The UCLA Bruins and South Alabama Jaguars square off Saturday in week 3 college football action from the Rose Bowl. South Alabama played Central Michigan this past weekend. In that matchup the Jaguars won by 14 points. As for UCLA, they’re coming off a game versus Alabama State. The Bruins managed a blowout win there. South Alabama didn’t have much trouble versus Nicholls State in their opener, cruising to a 48-7 victory with points in every quarter. QB Carter Bradley managed 260 yards with three scores, and La’Damian Webb put up 98 yards with two scores on 18 carries.

In game two versus Central Michigan, the Jaguars posted 31 points in the first half and rolled to a 38-24 victory. Bradley managed 339 yards with three TDs and a pick. Webb once again led the rush with 91 yards and two scores off 20 carries.

Over on the Bruins’ side, they took on Bowling Green in their 2022 opener. UCLA outscored the Falcons 21-0 in the second half on the way to a 45-17 win in that one. Dorian Thompson-Robinson finished with 298 yards, two scores and a pick, while Zach Charbonnet rushed for 111 yards and a TD on 21 carries. Kazmeir Allen led the receivers with his 10 grabs for 85 yards and a TD.

Matched up against Alabama State in game two, the Bruins didn’t have a ton of trouble. UCLA scored in every quarter during a 45-7 win. Quarterback Ethan Garbers was 14-of-18 for 164 yards and a pick. TJ Harden led the rushers with 56 yards and a score off seven totes.

PICK: I’m going to try South Alabama in this one. The Jaguars have a couple of solid performances under their belt so far this year. In game two South Alabama managed 487 total yards with 30 first downs and 38:00 in time of possession, so the offense is clicking in comparable matchups so far.

As for UCLA, they rolled in their last outing with 485 total yards, 7.1 yards per play and 28 first downs; there wasn’t much to complain about. That said, I think South Alabama is good enough to stay in range and power out a cover.
