The South Alabama Jaguars and Louisiana Tech Bulldogs clash Saturday afternoon in week 4 college football action from Hancock Whitney Stadium. Louisiana Tech is coming off a matchup versus Clemson. In that game the Bulldogs lost in a blowout. As for South Alabama, they just finished up against UCLA. The Jaguars would end up falling by one point in a tough result. Louisiana Tech gave up 24 points to Missouri in the second quarter of their 2022 opener, and things got worse from there in a 52-24 loss. The Bulldogs were able to bounce back in their second game versus Stephen F. Austin, however. LA Tech posted a 52-17 win in that one.
In game three versus Clemson, the Bulldogs were down 13-6 at halftime and eventually lost 48-20 after a rough third quarter. QB Parker McNeil finished with 311 yards, one TD and two picks. Charvis Thornton had five carries for just nine yards, and Griffin Herbert caught five balls for 122 yards.
Over on the South Alabama side, they got their offense working right out of the gate versus Nicholls State, cruising to a 48-7 win. In game two versus Central Michigan, the Jaguars kept the scoreboard lit up. That one ended up a 38-24 South Alabama win.
Back on Saturday against UCLA, the Jaguars were up 31-23 going into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold on in a 32-31 defeat. QB Carter Bradley managed 237 yards with one TD and one INT. La’Damian Webb finished with 16 carries for 124 yards and a score to lead the rush.
PICK: I’m going to stay with South Alabama. The Jaguars had UCLA on the ropes going into the fourth quarter on Saturday but couldn’t finish off the game. That said, South Alabama still had some solid statistical efforts with 22 first downs, 399 total yards and 9-of-14 on third downs.
As for LA Tech, they weren’t terrible in the first half but eventually ran out of steam versus a much better Clemson squad. The Bulldogs would end up with four turnovers and just 12 rush yards in the blowout loss. LA Tech is in for another tough matchup here, and I like an angry South Alabama team to post a bounce-back cover.
