Week 5: Syracuse vs Wagner 10/1/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Syracuse Orange and Wagner Seahawks clash Saturday in week 5 college football action from the Carrier Dome. Wagner is coming off an open week; they lost to St. Francis PA in their last outing. As for Syracuse, they managed a win over Virginia back on Friday. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place. 

Wagner kicked off their 2022 season in a September 1 matchup versus Fordham. The Seahawks ultimately lost that one 48-31. In week two it was a game versus Rutgers. Wagner was overwhelmed in that one and fell 66-7 in a blowout. 

Back on September 17, the Seahawks played their third game versos St. Francis PA. Wagner was down 14-7 after the first half and eventually fell 27-7. QB Nick Kargman posted 113 yards and a score, while Chris Collier led the rush with 57 yards on 14 carries. 

Over on the Syracuse side, they got off to a nice start versus Louisville with a 31-7 win in their opener. The Orange continued rolling in game two versus UConn with a 48-14 blowout win, then Syracuse kept it rolling with a tense 32-29 win over Purdue. 

In game four versus Virginia, the Orange got off to a 16-0 halftime edge. Syracuse slowed a bit in the second half but eventually pulled off the 22-20 win. QB Garrett Shrader finished with 277 yards and an interception, and Oronde Gadsden put up 107 yards off seven catches.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Syracuse, but the line is too thick to realistically mess with. The Orange are rolling along right now and riding high after hanging on for the win over Virginia. That said, there are plenty of things for Syracuse to work on: namely the 12 penalties and four turnovers. That said, Syracuse did a solid job overall containing the Cavaliers, holding them to 287 total yards and 3-of-12 on third-down tries. Wagner shouldn’t pose much of a threat here, but Syracuse needs to sharpen up in the meantime.
