The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Wisconsin Badgers meet Saturday in college football action from Camp Randall Stadium. Here’s a Wisconsin vs Illinois prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Wisconsin vs Illinois pick.

Illinois Fighting Illini Betting Preview

The Illini won their first three games over Western Illinois, Duke and Western Michigan this year before getting demolished by Indiana 63-10. Illinois would beat USC and Purdue ahead of losses to Ohio State and Washington, but then blew out Rutgers at home. In the 35-13 win over the Knights, Illinois scored 14 points in two different quarters. The Illini ended up with 445 yards on offense, 210 rush yards, 6.4 yards per play, 26 first downs and a 7-of-12 success rate on third downs. The defense held Rutgers to just 6-of-16 on third-down tries as well.

In their game versus Maryland last weekend the Illini were able to hang a touchdown on the board in each of the first three quarters—and ended up scoring points in all four quarters—during an eventual 24-6 victory. QB Luke Altmyer had a 15-of-25 line for 172 yards, two scores and a pick. Kaden Feagin led the team in rushing with 14 totes for 81 yards and a score while Hudson Clement topped the receivers with three catches for 72 yards and a pair of scores in the win for the Illini.

Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview

Over on the Wisconsin side, they won their first two over Miami-OH and Middle Tennessee before falling to Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State and Oregon. The Badgers would finally get another win over Washington on November 8, though. In that one Wisconsin ended up holding the opposition to just 251 total yards with 134 pass yards, 3.7 yards per play, 15 first downs and 5-of-16 on third-down tries alongside two takeaways. The Badgers gained just 205 yards on the other side though, including only 48 pass yards and 12 first downs.

Matched up against Indiana over the weekend the Badgers were within a field goal at the half. Wisconsin was outscored 21-0 the rest of the way however, giving up points in every quarter along the way to a 31-7 blowout loss on the road. QB Carter Smith logged a 9-of-15 line for 98 yards, one TD and one pick while leading rusher Gideon Ituka had 32 yards on nine carries. Mason Lane caught one 45-yard TD pass which put him atop the receivers. Only one person on the team—Chris Brooks—had more than one catch (two) in the defeat.

Wisconsin vs Illinois Prediction

I’ll lean toward Wisconsin, but I’m probably not touching this one. The Badgers got crushed by a great Indiana team in their last outing and couldn’t do anything on offense. Wisconsin put up just 168 total yards, 98 passing yards, 3.7 yards per play, eight first downs, two turnovers and a 2-of-11 success rate on third downs in the defeat. The defense gave up 305 pass yards, 6.3 yards per play and 7-of-12 on third downs on the other side. The Badgers have major issues scoring; they’ve been below 15 points in eight straight games. Their only hope is a low-scoring defensive battle here.

As for Illinois, they took care of business versus Maryland last weekend but they weren’t overwhelming statistically—unless you count a nice 225 yards of rushing. The defense stole the show, holding the Terrapins to 293 yards, 4.6 yards per play, 18 first downs and 3-of-12 on third-down tries. The Illini have been below 26 points in three of the last four games, losing two of those. Wisconsin should provide a nice challenge for the Illinois offense, even if the Badgers don’t score much. It should be an interesting matchup if nothing else.
