CPL 2021 gets underway on Thursday August 26th, 2021 at Warner Park, Basseterre in St. Kitts. The first match will see Guyana Amazon Warriors versus Trinbago Knight Riders, arguably the biggest rivalry in the league.

Guyana Amazon Warriors finished second in the group stages in last year’s edition before crashing out in the Semi-final to St. Lucia Zouks by 10 wickets where they only mustered 55. They have an unfortunate history of playing sensational cricket throughout the group stages then failing at the final hurdles, something they are cognizant of and will seek to eradicate. Nicholas Pooran will lead the team this year, he is the currently T20 vice-captain and has a wealth of experience to provide his side with while Shoaib Malik, who has captained the side before, returns to add strength to the batting and depth in the bowling department. Notable names that will line up for the Warriors this year are: Imran Tahir, Naveen ul-Haq, Kevin Sinclair and Ashmead Nedd from the bowling side of the wicket and for the batting side they are: Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer and Mohammad Hafeez. On paper they are the weaker side but these Warriors pack quite a punch and are eager to get the show on the road come Thursday.

Trinbago Knight Riders are the reigning defending champions, they have won an unprecedented four times with the most recent season being a flawless one for them. Kieron Pollard returns as the captain to lead a very potent side that comprises of some well-known overseas stars in Yasir Shah, Tim Seifert, Colin Munro and Isuru Udana. The overseas talent for the Knight Riders will accompany a healthy Caribbean core of players, namely: Sunil Narine, AkealHosein, Ravi Rampaul, and the young, talented Jayden Seales in the bowling department who are not to be outdone by the batting composition of: Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Denesh Ramdin and Tion Webster. This side has consistently been in the top four and will look to add to their trophy cabinet albeit through stiff competition.

The anticipation is high; the stage is set and St. Kitts will be home for these players throughout the duration of the tournament. Guyana Amazon Warriors against Trinbago Knight Riders will start what promises to be a wonderful month of Caribbean Premier League. Amazon Warriors have batting power and bowlers that can provide the success they seek, however, you can book it, the Knight Riders will reign supreme and start the season how they ended the last.
