CPL 2021 has reached the semi-final stage which starts tomorrow at 10:00 EST at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts between the Trinbago Knight Riders and the St. Lucia Kings, a repeat of last year’s final.

This tournament has been highly entertaining, teams have dominated and have been dominated, highs and lows also but through it all the four best teams will have one chance to make it to the pinnacle of the tournament. We have two teams here in the Trinbago Knight Riders and the St. Lucia Kings who are both filled with international stars and have momentum on their side. Who will win and advance to the CPL Final?

The Trinbago Knight Riders have not played their best Cricket this season, inconsistency at the beginning of the season raised a lot of eyebrows however, they were quick to put together wins inspired by the batting prowess of Colin Munro, Keiron Pollard the captain and Lendl Simmons. These guys and company will need to emulate the batting performances they stitched neatly together during the tournament to ensure their bowlers of a target worthy of defending. Ravi Rampaul has turned back the clock and produced breath-taking spells this season, taking 18 wickets at an average of just 14 in 9 matches. Akeil Hosein, Sunil Narine and Isuru Udana have also chipped in taking just over 10 wickets each to show just how dominant the Trinbago Knight Riders are in this tournament. Come tomorrow, the Knight Riders, who are the defending champions, will seek to reach yet another final and and for Keiron Pollard, it is a chance for him to be the most decorated captain CPL has ever seen.

St. Lucia Kings were deemed in my opinion as the team that many will sleep on but they would prevail, they have done just that by reaching the semi-final stage for only the third time and twice in two years. Captain Faf du Plessis has saved his best knocks for the back end with two scintillating innins of 120 not out and 84 to lead his side while Roston Chase has surprised cricketing fans in the Caribbean with 4 brilliant half-centuries and was equally impressive on the other side of the wicket with 9 wickets at an average of 23.88. Tim David and Andre Fletcher also contributed to the success of the St. Lucia Kings from a batting perspective. Jeavor Royal was the only standout bowler outside of Roston Chase but all-round performances assisted in St. Lucia Kings making it to the final four. Can they find the right combination with both bat and ball to surpass the ever-present Trinbago Knight Riders or will they succumb to the pressure?

The penultimate stage is set of what has been an explosive tournament; these two teams present power, a tactical presence and energy. Trinbago Knight Riders are the defending champions and will look to be as assertive as possible with Keiron Pollard at the helm, St Lucia Kings however have Darren Sammy in their camp and Faf du Plessis at the peak of his form of late to lead the side and with that said, I expect St. Lucia Kings to upset the Trinbago Knight Riders and reach their second final in as many years. They are the more well-rounded team and after a very slow start have rebounded nicely, and have momentum on their side. Trinbago Knight Riders are full of match-winning players but they have been inconsistent, which likely will be their downfall here.
