Draftkings picks and predictions for the first round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open.
2025 Farmers Insurance Open
January 22, 2025 11:30 am EDT
This Wednesday, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. Let’s take a look at the first round of this prestigious tournament from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s review where the first round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open will be played.
The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open will be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. DFS players should be mindful of the fact that this event will be played on two different golf courses, the Torrey Pines North and South courses.
The entire field of 156 golfers will play both courses in the first two rounds of the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Upon completion of the second round of play on Thursday afternoon, a cut will take place. The remaining 65 players and ties will play the remainder of the golf tournament (third and fourth rounds) on the South course.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open.
2025 Farmers Insurance Open Draftkings First Round Picks
Ludvig Aberg $11,000
Since the beginning of June, Ludvig Aberg has played 12 events (PGA and DP World Tours combined). In those 12 tournaments just noted, Aberg accumulated an impressive nine top 19 finishes, including a fifth-place result at the 2025 Sentry earlier this month.
Ludvig Aberg certainly checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Let me be more specific. Aberg is currently ranked third in overall scoring average (67.1), sixth in birdie or better percentage (37.50%), eighth in GIR (greens in regulation-81.94%), 14th in putting average (1.644) and third in par four scoring average (3.75) on the PGA Tour.
It should also be noted that Ludvig Aberg has played well at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. Aberg finished ninth at the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.
Hideki Matsuyama $10,700
The 2021 Masters champion arrives at this week’s tournament on the heels of two consecutive top 16 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2025 Sentry three weeks ago.
Ben Griffin $8,100
The talented American has compiled six top 25 finishes in his last eight tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a seventh-place result at last week’s 2025 American Express.
In his first appearance at this event as a professional last year, Griffin finished 31st at the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open. I fully expect Griffin to post a much better result at this week’s event. Why? Ben Griffin is a far better golfer now than he was last year.
Mark Hubbard $7,800
Last week, Mark Hubbard fired a second round 64 at the 2025 American Express en route to an eventual 12th place finish.
Additional golfers I like to perform in the first round (Draftkings price noted): Maverick McNealy $8,700: Tony Finau $10,000: Keegan Bradley $9,600: Alex Smalley $7,400: Will Zalatoris $9,300: Harry Higgs $6,500: Ryan Palmer $6,400.
