February 13, 2025 9:30 am EDT

This Thursday morning, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational. Let’s take a look at the first round of this tournament from a DFS perspective.

Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s review where the first round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played.

The 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at Torrey Pines (South Course) in San Diego, California. The golf course is a par 72 that measures approximately 7,765 yards.

*The Genesis Invitational is traditionally played at the Riveria Country Club. However, due to the recent Los Angeles wildfires the 2025 Genesis Invitational was moved to Torrey Pines.

I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.

If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.

Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational.

2025 Genesis Invitational First Round Picks

Justin Thomas $10,000

Since the beginning of October, Justin Thomas has played six events on the PGA Tour, in those six tournaments just mentioned, Thomas amassed four top six finishes, including a second-place result at the 2024 ZOZO Championship in October.

Due to Justin Thomas’s impressive second place finish at the 2024 ZOZO Championship I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Thomas fared relative to the field.

Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 ZOZO Championship, in relation to the field, Justin Thomas ranked third in GIR (greens in regulation-79.2%), first in bogey avoidance (1), and tenth in total birdies made (18).

Justin Thomas has posted a quality result at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. More specifically, Thomas finished 19th at the 2021 Genesis Invitational.

Jason Day $8,700

Jason Day has tallied two top 13 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a third-place result at the 2025 American Express two weeks ago.

In summary, I fully expect the Jason Day to continue his outstanding play at this week’s 2025 Genesis Invitational.

Maverick McNealy $7,600

The talented American has compiled three top eight finishes in his last six events played on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2024 RSM Classic in November.

It is noteworthy that Maverick McNealy played his college golf at the University of Stanford. Having stated that, McNealy should feel quite comfortable playing golf in the state of California this week.

Sam Stevens $7,700

Sam Stevens has compiled two top 17 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive second place result at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open.

Let us not forget that the Farmers Insurance Open is played at Torrey Pines. Steven now gets four rounds on the South course. I have no doubt that Stevens will post another quality result at this week’s PGA Tour event.

Additional golfers I like to perform well in the first round (Draftkings price noted): Tommy Fleetwood $9,000: Sepp Straka $8,300: Harris English $7,500: Andrew Novak $7,100.
