This week, the PGA Tour presents the 2024 John Deere Classic. Let’s take a look at this week’s event from a Draftkings perspective.

Before I dive into my DFS player selections for this tournament let’s review the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a golfer’s success at this week’s 2024 John Deere Classic.

Where will the 2024 John Deere Classic be played?

The 2024 John Deere Classic will be played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. The golf course is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,289 yards.

Since 2000, TPC Deere Run has been the host golf course for the John Deere Classic.

Sepp Straka won the 2023 John Deere Classic with a cumulative four round score of 21 under par.

Will the John Deere Classic have a traditional cut after two rounds?

The John Deere Classic will have a field of 156 players to start the tournament on Thursday. Upon the completion of two rounds, a cut will occur. The top 65 golfers (including ties) will make the cut.

2024 John Deere Classic Draftkings DFS Picks

Aaron Rai $10,000

Aaron Rai arrives at this week’s tournament on the heels of three consecutive top 19 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 14th place result at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open four weeks ago.

Due to Aaron Rai’s quality finish at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Rai fared relative to the field.

Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, in relation to the field, Aaron Rai ranked first in driving accuracy (78.6%), fifth in GIR (greens in regulation-79.2%), first in strokes gained tee to green (2.741), and second in strokes gained off the tee (1.269).

Denny McCarthy $9,500

The talented American has accumulated five top 31 finishes in his last seven events played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive sixth place result at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship in May.

McCarthy certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Since 2018, McCarthy has played the John Deere Classic five times. In those five events just noted, McCarthy has accumulated three top 34 finishes, including a sixth-place result at the 2023 John Deere Classic.

Troy Merritt $6,800

Troy Merritt has accumulated two top 17 finishes in his last four tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a 17th place result at last week’s 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

In relation to this week’s 2024 John Deere Classic field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Troy Merritt ranks ninth in strokes gained approach, 16th in strokes gained on par threes, and third in proximity to the hole.

Similar to Denny McCarthy, Troy Merritt has posted a quality result at TPC Deere Run in the past. Merritt finished 17th at the 2023 John Deere Classic.

In my opinion, Troy Merritt presents the best fantasy value of any golfer on this week’s slate at the low Draftkings price of only $6,800.
