July 17, 2025 2:00 am EDT
This week, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the final major championship of the season, the 2025 Open Championship. Let’s take a look at this week’s event from a DFS perspective.
Before I dive into my DFS player selections for this tournament let’s review the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a golfer’s success at this week’s major championship.
Where will the 2025 Open Championship be played?
The 2025 Open Championship will be played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. The golf course is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,346 yards.
Royal Portrush last hosted the Open Championship in 2019. Shane Lowry won the 2019 Open Championship with a cumulative four round score of 15 under par.
Will the Open Championship have a traditional cut after two rounds?
The 2025 Open Championship will have a field of 156 players to start the tournament on Thursday. Upon the completion of two rounds, a cut will occur. The top 70 golfers (including ties) will make the cut.
Open Championship Key Player Statistics

I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
2025 Open Championship Draftkings DFS Picks
Rory McIlroy $11,500
Since the beginning of January, Rory McIlroy has played 13 tournaments (PGA and DP World Tours combined). In those 13 events just mentioned, McIlroy compiled nine top 19 finishes, including three wins (2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: 2025 Players Championship: 2025 Masters Tournament).
Rory McIlroy is currently ranked fifth in strokes gained off the tee (0.632), fourth in strokes gained putting (0.754), second in driving distance (322.2), 17th in scrambling (64.47%), fifth in birdie or better percentage (35.69%), and 13th in par five scoring average (4.51) on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous event history. Since 2013, Rory McIlroy has played the Open Championship ten times. In those ten tournaments just noted, McIlroy amassed six top six finishes, including a win at the 2014 Open Championship.
Shane Lowry $9,300
Shane Lowry has accumulated four top 23 finishes in his last seven tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a 13th place result at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open six weeks ago. Additionally, Lowey won the 2019 Open Championship.
Sepp Straka $7,400
Sepp Straka has accumulated four top 13 finishes in his last seven events played on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2025 Truist Championship in May.
Due to Sepp Straka’s impressive win at the 2025 Truist Championship I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the event to determine how Straka fared relative to the field.
Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2025 Truist Championship, in relation to the field, Sepp Straka ranked 16th in GIR (greens in regulation-83.3%), 19th in driving accuracy (60.7%), ninth in putting average (1.696), fourth in total birdies made (20) and second in bogey avoidance (6).
Straka has posted a quality result at this week’s major championship in the past. More specifically, Straka finished second at the 2023 Open Championship.
Additional golfers I like to perform well at this week’s 2025 Open Championship (Draftkings price noted): Scottie Scheffler $14,200: Ludvig Aberg $9,100: Tyrrell Hatton $8,900: Matt Fitzpatrick $7,800: Marco Penge $6,000.
