2025 Valero Texas Open
April 3, 2025 8:00 am EDT
This Thursday morning, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2025 Valero Texas Open. Let’s take a look at the first round of this tournament from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s review where the first round of the 2025 Valero Texas Open will be played.
The 2025 Valero Open will be played at TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) in San Antonio, Texas. The AT&T Oaks Course is a par 72 that measures approximately 7,438 yards.
*Akshay Bhatia won the 2024 Valero Texas Open with a four round cumulative score of 20 under par.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest! Keep that in mind as you construct your lineups for this DFS slate.
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2025 Valero Texas Open.
Valero Texas Open First Round Picks
Daniel Berger $9,000
Since the beginning of November, Daniel Berger has played nine events on the PGA Tour. In those nine events just noted, Berger tallied seven top 25 finishes, including a second-place result at the 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open seven weeks ago.
Daniel Berger certainly checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Let me be more specific. Berger is currently ranked 12th in overall strokes gained (1.334), 15th in strokes gained tee to green (1.003), 22nd in proximity to the hole (35’4), tenth in driving accuracy (67.35%) and fourth in par four scoring average (3.93) on the PGA Tour.
Keith Mitchell $8,900
Last week, Keith Mitchell fired a first round 65 at the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open en route to an eventual 18th place finish.
Mitchell has posted multiple quality finishes at this week’s PGA Tour event. Since 2018, Mitchell has played the Valero Texas Open three times. In those three events just noted, Mitchell compiled three top 26 finishes, including a 14th place result at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.
Rico Hoey $7,600
Rico Hoey has tallied three top 26 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an 11th place result at last week’s 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Additionally, Hoey has posted a quality finish at TPC San Antonio in the past. Hoey finished 14th at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.
Eric Cole $7,400
The talented American arrives at this week’s 2025 Valero Texas Open on the heels of two consecutive top 15 finishes, including a 12th place result at the 2025 Valspar Championship two weeks ago.
It is noteworthy that Eric Cole drew an early first round tee time. With that said, I like Cole’s chances of playing well in Thursday’s first round of the 2025 Valero Texas Open.
Additional golfers I like to perform well in the first round of the 2025 Valero Texas Open (Draftkings price noted): Tommy Fleetwood $10,500: Ludvig Aberg $10,600: Corey Conners $10,000: Bud Cauley $8,800: Jake Knapp $8,200: Ben Griffin $8,100.
