2025 Valspar Championship
March 20, 2025 7:35 am EDT
This Thursday, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2025 Valspar Championship. Let’s take a look at the first round of this tournament from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s review where the first round of the 2025 Valspar Championship will be played.
The 2025 Valspar Championship will be played at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. This track is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,352 yards.
*Peter Malnati won the 2024 Valspar Championship with a cumulative four round score of 12 under par.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest! Keep that in mind as you construct your lineups for this DFS slate.
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2025 Valspar Championship.
2025 Valspar Championship First Round Picks
Stephan Jaeger $8,000
Stephan Jaeger has compiled two top 20 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive sixth-place result at the 2025 Mexico Open at Vidanta last month.
Due to Stepan Jaeger’s quality finish at the 2025 Mexico Open at Vidanta I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the event to determine how Jaeger fared relative to the field.
Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2025 Mexico Open at Vidanta, in relation to the field, Stephan Jaeger ranked 11th in driving distance (319.9), third in overall putting average (1.551), third in total birdies made (25) and 16th in bogey avoidance (7).
It is noteworthy that Stephan Jaeger has posted a good result at the Copperhead Course in the past. Jaeger finished 25th at the 2023 Valspar Championship.
Billy Horschel $7,500
The 2014 FedEx Cup champion has tallied three top 25 finishes in his last seven events played on the PGA Tour, including a ninth-place result at the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in January.
Horschel played his college golf at the University of Florida and has traditionally played exceptionally well in this area of the country. I fully expect that trend to continue at the Copperhead Course this week.
Similar to Stephan Jaeger, Billy Horschel has posted a good result at this week’s PGA Tour event previously. Horschel finished 12th at the 2024 Valspar Championship.
Jacob Bridgeman $7,500
Jacob Bridgeman has amassed two top 15 finishes in his last three events played on the PGA Tour, including a second-place result at the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches two weeks ago.
Bridgeman certainly checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Bridgeman is currently ranked 23rd in overall strokes gained (1.002), 15th in scrambling (66.67%), 25th in strokes gained putting (0.514) and 18th in overall scoring average (70.44) on the PGA Tour.
Additional golfers I like to perform well in the first round of the 2025 Valspar Championship (Draftkings price noted): Tommy Fleetwood $10,400: Sepp Straka $9,900: Shane Lowry $9,500: Luke Clanton $8,300: Joseph Bramlett $6,900: Kevin Roy $6,900.
