Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with an American League matchup featuring the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.
Before we dive into the New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.
Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules
You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.
Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s Yankees vs. Astros matchup.
Draftkings MLB DFS Showdown Picks
Captain-Carlos Rodon, Starting Pitcher, New York Yankees $11,800
On Thursday night, Major League Baseball presents the final game of a three-game American League series featuring the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros.
How are these two teams playing entering today’s MLB game? The New York Yankees arrive at the third game of this three-game series with the Houston Astros playing good baseball. The Yankees have won eight of the team’s last ten games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox last week.
Similar to the New York Yankees, the Houston Astros arrive at the final game of this American League series playing quality baseball. More specifically, the Astros have won five of the team’s last eight games played this season, including an 8-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels three days ago.
Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this evening’s contest. Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has certainly been an essential part of the New York Yankees starting pitching rotation this season. With that said, how has Rodon performed from a statistical perspective in 2025? Let’s examine Rodon’s player data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.
Through 28 starts made in 2025, New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has compiled a 15-7 (win-loss record), a 3.18 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.07 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) which ranks 13th in MLB. It should also be mentioned that Rodon has amassed 177 strikeouts (11th in MLB) while allowing 67 walks in 164.1 innings pitched this season.
What did we learn from the data just presented? Clearly, Carlos Rodon can post a high number of DFS points on any given night. I fully expect that trend to continue in this evening’s matchup with the Houston Astros.
In my opinion, Carlos Rodon is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.
Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season game (Draftkings price noted): Cristian Javier, Starting Pitcher (Houston Astros) $10,800: Aaron Judge, Outfielder (New York Yankees) $9,800: Yordan Alvarez, Outfielder (Houston Astros) $7,400.
