Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays
May 29, 2025 7:07 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents FanDuel baseball fans with an American League matchup featuring the Toronto Blue Jays and the Athletics. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Athletics game let’s review the rules for the FanDuel single game showdown contest.

FanDuel Single Game Contest Rules

Here are the FanDuel single game contest rules. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team MVP. The MVP accumulates 1.5x times the standard FanDuel fantasy points value. Additionally, the MVP is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining five players in your lineup will be flex plays. The five flex positions will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) FanDuel single game contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game contest, I highly recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.

*It should be noted that FanDuel does not utilize the pitcher position in single game MLB contests. Having stated that, only batters are available for single game MLB lineups on the FanDuel platform.

Here are my FanDuel picks for this evening’s Athletics vs. Blue Jays matchup.

FanDuel MLB Player Selections

MVP-Lawrence Butler, Outfielder, Athletics $10,200

On Thursday evening, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a four-game American League series featuring the Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB game? The Athletics arrive at the first game of this four- game series with the Toronto Blue Jays playing below average baseball. More specifically, the Athletics have lost 13 of the team’s last 14 games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including an embarrassing 11-1 loss to the Houston Astros two days ago.

Similar to the Athletics, the Toronto Blue Jays are not playing well entering this evening’s game. The Blue Jays have lost four of the team’s last six games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week.

Now that we have ascertained how both of these teams are currently playing let’s turn our attention tonight’s contest. Outfielder Lawrence Butler has been a solid contributor for the Athletics this season. Having stated that, how has the veteran outfielder performed from a statistical standpoint? Let’s review Butler’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

In the 47 games that Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler has played in the 2025 MLB regular season, Butler has compiled a .252 batting average, eight home runs, 17 walks, 23 RBIs (runs batted in), eight stolen bases and 26 runs scored. Additionally, Butler has amassed a .304 OBP (On-Base Percentage).

Earlier this month, in the Houston Astros 11-1 victory over the Athletics, Lawrence Butler played rather well. In the Rangers win over the Astros, Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler tallied three hits (one home run), one RBI and one run scored. It should also be noted that in the Astros defeat of the Athletics, Butler amassed a massive 24.7 FanDuel points.

In my opinion, Lawrence Butler is the most likely player to accumulate the most FanDuel points in this MLB game. With that said, I am backing Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler at the MVP position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like in this game (FanDuel price noted): Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays (First Baseman) $10,600: Brent Rooker, Outfielder (Athletics) $11,400: Shea Langeliers, Catcher (Athletics) $9,000.
