This Friday morning, the LPGA Tour presents the first round of the 2021 ShopRite LPGA Classic!
Before I discuss my favorite matchup bets for the first round of the 2021 ShopRite LPGA Classic let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the LPGA Tour.
*It should be noted that this week’s LPGA Tour event will begin on Friday due to the fact that the tournament is a 54 hole (three rounds) tournament.
Here is a list of the top ten ranked golfers in scoring average on the LPGA Tour that are in this week’s 2021 ShopRite LPGA Classic field with that player’s average individual round score this season.

Now that we have established who the top ten golfers with regard to scoring average are on the LPGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite first round matchup bets for this week’s 2021 ShopRite LPGA Classic!
Jin Young Ko -120 over Brooke Henderson
Jin Young Ko has accumulated three top six finishes in her last four tournaments played on the LPGA Tour, including two wins (2021 Volunteers Of America Classic, 2021 Cambia Portland Classic). If you look at the relevant data I just presented, I think it is is hard for any golf fan to argue with the fact that I believe that Jin Young Ko is currently the best female golfer in the world.
Just to further emphasize my point regarding Jin Young Ko’s strong recent play on the LPGA Tour, let’s take a look at her key player statistics in relation to the her peers on the LPGA Tour. Jin Young Ko is currently ranked fifth in GIR (greens in regulation-76.74%%), tenth in driving accuracy (80.21%), and second in scoring average (69.79) on the LPGA Tour.
Yes, I know that Young Ko’s opponent in this matchup (Brooke Henderson) wager is an outstanding golfer. However, I also know that Brooke Henderson has not produced the tournament results on the LPGA Tour that Jin Young Ko has this season.
Lexi Thompson -115 over Danielle Kang
Lexi Thompson arrives at this week’s ShopRite LPGA Classic in rather good form. More specifically, Thompson has accumulated two consecutive top 20 finishes on the LPGA Tour, including an eighth place result the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship last week.
Thompson also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Lexi Thompson has played the ShopRite LPGA Classic twice since 2019. In those two tournaments just mentioned, Thompson has accumulated two top 13 finishes, including a win at the 2019 ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Lexi Thompson is currently ranked first in GIR (greens in regulation-78.89%) and third in driving distance (279.85) on the LPGA Tour.
