2023 Memorial Tournament
2023-06-01 07:00:00 EDT

This Thursday morning, the first round of the 2023 Memorial Tournament will begin.

Before I dive into my favorite matchup bets for the 2023 Memorial Tournament let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.

Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average

1. Jon Rahm 68.69

2. Scottie Scheffler 68.73

3. Xander Schauffele 69.36

4. Patrick Cantlay 69.43

5. Tyrrell Hatton 69.46

Now that we have determined who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field), let’s shift our focus to my favorite tournament matchup bets for the 2023 Memorial Tournament.

Harris English -120 over J.J. Spaun

Harris English has accumulated two top 12 finishes in his last three events played on the PGA Tour, including a third place result at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship four weeks ago.

Due to the fact that Harris English played so well at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship, I decided to take a hard look at English’s player statistics relative to the field.

After four rounds of competitive golf played at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship, relative to the field, Harris English ranked ninth in putts per GIR (1.692), 13th in GIR (greens in regulation-72.2%), and seventh in total birdies made (18).

Viktor Hovland +105 over Rory McIlroy

Viktor Hovland has accumulated two consecutive top 16 finishes on the PGA Tour, including an impressive second place result at the 2023 PGA Championship two weeks ago.

In direct contrast to Hovland, Rory McIlroy is not playing good golf at the moment. More specifically, McIlroy has missed the cut in two of his last four tournaments played on the PGA Tour.

Rickie Fowler -130 over Sahith Theegala

Since the beginning of April, Rickie Fowler has played five tournaments on the PGA tour. In those five events just noted, Fowler has accumulated four top 15 finishes, including a sixth place result at last week’s 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Fowler also finished 11th at the 2021 Memorial Tournament.
