2023 Open Championship
2023-07-20 01:00:00 EDT

This Thursday morning, the first round of the 2023 Open Championship will begin.

Before I discuss my favorite prop bets for the final major championship of the year let’s take a look at the top five golfers in overall scoring average in this week’s 2023 Open Championship field.

Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average

1. Scottie Scheffler 68.47

2. Jon Rahm 68.79

3. Rory McIlroy 68.95

4. Xander Schauffele 69.26

5. Patrick Cantlay 69.28

Now that we have determined who the top five players with regard to overall scoring average are in this week’s field let’s shift our focus to my favorite prop bets for the 2023 Open Championship.

Top Australian: Adam Scott +500

Adam Scott arrives at this week’s major championship in rather good form. Let me be more specific. Since the beginning of May, Adam Scott has played seven tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those seven events just noted, Adam Scott has accumulated four top 19 finishes, including a fifth place result at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship in May.

It should also be noted that Adam Scott has posted quaility finishes at the Open Championship in the past. A clear illustration of my previous statement is Adam Scott’s 15th place result at the 2022 Open Championship.

Top Spaniard: Jon Rahm -250

Since the beginning of February, Jon Rahm has played ten events on the PGA Tour. In those ten tournaments just noted, Jon Rahm has accumulated seven top 16 finishes, including an historic win at the 2023 Masters Tournament in April.

First of all, I am fully aware that the books are not giving us the best odds (-250) for Rahm to win this wager. Having stated that, I just don’t care. I think Rahm is an absolute lock to post the best finish of all the Spanish golfers in this week’s Open Championship field.

In summary, I am backing Jon Rahm to post the best finish of all the Spanish players in the Open Championship field.
