The 2023 PGA Championship will be played at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

Before I discuss my favorite early bet for the 2023 PGA Championship let’s take a look at the betting odds of past champions of this tournament to see if we can find any historical trends.

Here is a list of the last five winners of the PGA Championship including that golfer’s opening odds the week they won the event and the score that player posted to win:

Last Five PGA Championship Winners

2022 Justin Thomas (+700) -5

2021 Phil Mickelson (+2500) -6

2020 Collin Morikawa (+3500) -13

2019 Brooks Koepka (+1100) -8

2018 Brooks Koepka (+2000) -16

Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite early bet for the 2023 PGA Championship.

Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to win.

Shane Lowry +3500

The 2019 Open Champion ended his 2022 season playing quality golf on both the PGA and DP World Tours. More specifically, Shane Lowry accumulated four top-23 finishes in his last five tournaments played in 2022 (PGA and DP World Tours combined), including a win at the 2022 BMW PGA Championship in September.

Additionally, Shane Lowry has illustrated an ability to post good results at the PGA Championship in the past. Since 2018, Lowry has played the PGA Championship five times. In those five tournaments just mentioned, Lowry has accumulated three top 12 finishes, including a fourth place result at the 2021 PGA Championship.

In summary, I am backing Shane Lowry to win the 2023 PGA Championship at odds of +3500.
