2023 Ryder Cup
2023-09-29 01:35:00 EDT

This week, golf bettors will be presented with the opening matches of the 2023 Ryder Cup.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will be played at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome, Italy.

Before I dive into my favorite team prop bets for this week’s prestigous event let’s take a look at the current active leaders in overall Ryder Cup points of the golfers in this week’s field with that player’s overall career Ryder Cup record noted.

Top Five Players in Ryder Cup Points

1. Justin Rose 13-8-2

2. Rory McIlroy 12-12-4

3. Jordan Spieth 8-7-3

4. Justin Thomas 6-2-1

5. Brooks Koepka 6-5-1

Now that we have identified who the current active leaders in overall Ryder Cup points are in this week’s field let’s shift our attention to my favorite team prop bets for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Day One Team Leader: Europe -110

The European team will be happy to be back on home soil in Italy this week. Why? Well from a historical trend perspective. the European team should will be thrilled to hear that eight of the last nine teams that won the Ryder Cup was the home team.

In my opinion, the United States team, on an overall talent level is better than the European team. However, the chemistry of the European team has seemed to drive far less talented European teams to eventual victory in previous Ryder Cups. With a much more talented overall European team that includes Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy I think it will be extremely difficult for the Americans to win in Rome.

For me, it is abundantly clear that the European team will be highly motivated to retain the cup after losing this event in the United States in 2021. For the reasons just outlined, I am backing the European team to win the 2023 Ryder Cup at odds of -110.

Top European Rookie Point Scorer: Ludvig Aberg +100

The talented 23 year old Swede arrives at this week’s event in rather good form. More specifically, Ludvig Aberg has accumulated four consecutive top 14 finishes (DP World and PGA Tours combined), including a win at the 2023 Omega European Masters earlier this month.

In summary, I am backing Ludvig Aberg to be the top European point scorer at odds of +100.
