This July, golf bettors will be presented with the final major championship of the year, the 2024 Open Championship.

The 2024 Open Championship will be played at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Before I dive into my favorite early bet for the 2024 Open Championship let’s take a look at the last five champions of this event to see if we can identify any historical betting trends.

Here is a list of the last five winners of the Open Championship including that player’s opening odds the week that golfer won the tournament and the score that golfer posted to win the event.

Last Five Open Championship Winners

2023 Brian Harman +12000 (-13)

2022 Cameron Smith +2800 (-8)

2021 Collin Morikawa +4000 (-13)

2019 Shane Lowry +7000 (-15)

2018 Francesco Molinari +3300 (-8)

*The 2020 Open Championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that we have reviewed the five previous winners of the Open Championship let’s shift our attention to my favorite early bet for the 2024 Open Championship.

Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to win.

Tommy Fleetwood +2500

Since the beginning of June, Tommy Fleetwood has played 12 tournaments (DP World and PGA Tours combined). In those 12 events just noted, Tommy Fleetwood accumulated ten top 25 finishes, including an impressive second place result at the 2023 DP World Tour Championship in November.

The talented Englishman also checks the box for me when it comes to previous results at this prestigious event. Since 2018, Tommy Fleetwood has played the Open Championship four times. In those four tournaments just mentioned, Tommy Fleetwood accumulated three top 12 finishes, including a fourth place result at the 2022 Open Championship.

In summary, I am backing Tommy Fleetwood to win the 2024 Open Championship at odds of +2500.
