This week, the DP World Tour presents one of the most prestigious events on it’s schedule, the 2022 BMW PGA Championship.
Before I discuss my favorite tournament matchup bet for the 2022 BMW PGA Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the DP World Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Rory McIlroy 69.46
- Shaun Norris 69.77
- Ryan Fox 69.82
- Thriston Lawrence 69.83
- Adrian Meronk 69.98
Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the DP World Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament matchup bet for this week’s 2022 BMW PGA Championship.
Shane Lowry +380 over Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick
Since the beginning of July, Shane Lowry has played five tournaments (DP World and PGA Tours combined). In those five events just mentioned, Lowry has accumulated three top 21 finishes, including a ninth place result at the 2022 Irish Open.
Due to the fact that Shane Lowry performed so well at the 2022 Irish Open, I decided to take a hard look at Lowry’s player statistics relative to the field.
After four rounds of competitive play at the 2022 Irish Open, in relation to the field, Shane Lowry ranked fifth in strokes gained approach (7.210) and 12th in strokes gained around the green (2.680).
Shane Lowry certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Let me be more specific. Shane Lowry has played the BMW PGA Championship ten times since 2011. In those ten events just noted, Lowry has accumulated an impressive nine top 17 finishes, including a a second place result at the 2014 BMW PGA Championship.
