Draftkings Farmers Insurance Open Second Round Picks 1/23/25
2025 Farmers Insurance Open
January 23, 2025 11:30 am EDT
This Thursday, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the second round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. Let’s take a look at the first round of this prestigious tournament from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections for this week’s PGA Tour event let’s review where the second round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open will be played.
The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open will be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. DFS players should be mindful of the fact that this event will be played on two different golf courses, the Torrey Pines North and South courses.
The entire field of 156 golfers will play both courses in the first two rounds of the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Upon completion of the second round of play on Thursday afternoon, a cut will take place. The remaining 65 players and ties will play the remainder of the golf tournament (third and fourth rounds) on the South course.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the second round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open.
2025 Farmers Insurance Open Draftkings First Round Picks
Hideki Matsuyama $10,500
The 2021 Masters champion arrives at this week’s tournament on the heels of three consecutive top 16 finishes (PGA and Japan Tours combined), including a win at the 2025 Sentry earlier this month.
Due to Hideki Matsuyama’s impressive win at the 2025 Sentry I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the event to see how Matsuyama fared relative to the field.
Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2025 Sentry, in relation to the field, Hideki Matsuyama ranked fourth in GIR (greens in regulation-87.5%), seventh in driving accuracy (75%), second in putting average (1.556) first in total birdies made (33) and first in bogey avoidance (2).
Hideki Matsuyama also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Since 2018, Hideki Matsuyama has played this week’s PGA Tour event six times. In those six tournaments just noted, Matsuyama compiled an impressive four top 30 finishes, including a ninth-place result at the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open.
In summary, I fully expect Hideki Matsuyama to continue his outstanding play in tomorrow’s second round of the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open.
Lee Hodges $7,200
The talented American has tallied two top ten finishes in his last three events played on the PGA Tour, including a fifth-place result at the 2024 RSM Classic in November.
Mark Hubbard $7,500
Last week, Mark Hubbard fired a second round 64 at the 2025 American Express en route to an eventual 12th place finish.
Additionally, Hubbard has posted a quality result at this event previously. Hubbard finished 20th at the 2024 Famers Insurance Open.
Additional golfers I like to perform in the second round (Draftkings price noted): Ludvig Aberg $11,200: Lanto Griffin $7,000: Aaron Rai $9,000: Cristobal Del Solar $6,100: Kyoung Hoon Lee $6,400: Chan Kim $6,800: Danny Walker $6,200.
