January 2, 2024 12:45 pm EDT
This Thursday, Draftkings golf fans will be presented with the first round of the 2025 Sentry. Let’s take a look at the first round of this event from a DFS perspective.
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections, let’s review where the first round of the 2025 Sentry will be played.
The first round of the 2025 Sentry will be played at the Plantation Course in Kapula, Hawaii. This golf course is a par 73 that measures approximately 7,956 yards.
I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
For those readers that are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.
If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2025 Sentry.
2025 Sentry Draftkings First Round Picks
Si Woo Kim $7,800
Since the beginning of April, Si Woo Kim has played 17 tournaments (PGA and DP World Tours combined). In those 17 events just mentioned, Kim has accumulated ten top 30 finishes, including an impressive sixth place result at the 2024 ZOZO Championship in October.
Due to Si Woo Kim’s impressive sixth place finish at the 2024 ZOZO Championship I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Kim fared relative to the field.
Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 ZOZO Championship, in relation to the field, Si Woo Kim ranked 12th in driving accuracy (63.5%), 16th in bogey avoidance (6), third in overall putting average (1.615) and fourth in total birdies made (21).
Si Woo Kim has posted a quality result at the Plantation Course in the past. More specifically, Kim finished fifth at last year’s 2024 Sentry.
Brian Harman $7,500
The 2023 Open champion arrives at this week’s event on the heels of two consecutive top 25 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 25th place result at the 2024 RSM Classic last month.
Additionally, Brian Harman finished third at the 2018 Sentry. In conclusion, I fully expect Brian Harman to continue his outstanding play in Thursday’s first round in Hawaii.
Jason Day $7,700
The talented Australian has compiled five top 23 finishes in his last six tournaments played (PGA and DP World Tour events combined), including an eighth-place result at the 2024 BMW Australian PGA Championship five weeks ago.
It is also noteworthy that Jason Day has played well at this week’s PGA Tour event multiple times in the past. Let me be more specific. Since 2014, Jason Day has played the Sentry five times. In those five events just mentioned, Day has compiled an impressive five top 13 finishes, including a third-place result at the 2015 Sentry.
Sepp Straka $7,000
Last month, Sepp Straka fired a second round 68 at the 2024 Hero World Challenge en route to a ninth place finish.
It is also noteworthy that Straka has played well at this PGA Tour event previously. Straka finished 12th at the 2024 Sentry.
Additional golfers I like to perform well in Thursday’s first round. (Draftkings price noted): Ludvig Aberg $9,900: Sam Burns $9,000: Byeong Hun An $8,500: Chris Kirk $7,100: Rafael Campos $6,000.
