This week, the LPGA Tour travels to North Carolina for the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open.
Before I discuss my favorite tournament matchup bets for the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open let’s take a look at the top five players in scoring average on the LPGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Minjee Lee 68.89
- Lexi Thompson 69.26
- Hyo Joo Kim 69.30
- Jin Young Ko 69.58
- Xiyu Lin 69.62
Now that we have determined who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the LPGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament matchup bets for this week’s 2022 U.S. Women’s Open.
Lydia Ko -115 over Minjee Lee
Since the beginning of January, Lydia Ko has played eight tournaments on the LPGA Tour. In those eight events just mentioned, Ko has accumulated an impressive eight top 25 finishes, including a win at the 2022 Gainbridge LPGA @ Boca Rio in January.
Lydia Ko is currently ranked fourth in putts per GIR (1.72), 16th in scoring average (69.88), and tenth in total birdies made (134) on the LPGA Tour.
Lydia Ko also finished 13th at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open.
Lexi Thompson -140 over Nelly Korda
Lexi Thompson arrives at this week’s 2022 U.S. Women’s Open on the heels of three consecutive top 13 finishes on the LPGA Tour, including a fourth place result at the 2022 Chevron Championship in April.
Thompson also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event results at this week’s major championship. Let me be more specific. Lexi Thompson has played the U.S. Women’s Open ten times since 2012. In those ten events just mentioned, Lexi Thompson has accumulated six top 14 finishes, including a third place result at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open.
It should also be noted that Lexi Thompson’s opponent in this matchup (Nelly Korda) is returning from a long layoff due to an injury. In summary, I am backing Lexi Thompson to defeat Nelly Korda this week.
