Handicap Betting Explained

Handicap wagering is a way of presenting the odds differently from normal fixed odds betting and is something you should be involved in only if you have a solid understanding of how it works and what it means.

Over/Under Betting

Sometimes abbreviated as O/U, this type of bet is one in which a sportsbook predicts statistics in a given event, most often the total number of points or goals scored by a combination of both teams and then it is up to us to bet on whether we think the total will be higher or lower than that figure.

Sure Bets

Betting in the traditional way on one market always leaves us open to the possibility of defeat. In fact, statistically, it’s almost certain for most bettors.

Even betting on the hottest favorite cannot be considered a guaranteed way to make a profit as any horse can break down and any referee can ruin a game that was otherwise going smoothly.

Sure betting though is a way of number crunching to take any risk out of betting altogether.

The Different Types Of Sports Betting

Regular sports bettors have evolved their game just as the whole world of online wagering has changed over the years and so they are well aware of all the world’s sports betting opportunities. For the uninitiated, this can prove to be a minefield.

What you’ll discover is that no one type of sports wager is better than another, but rather they all simply cater to people with different tastes and skills.

Exchanges for example are good for those who prefer to take the negative view, especially within horse racing, and like to ‘lay’ horses they are pretty sure will be beaten. Other bettors prefer sports such as basketball or rugby where it’s about points and therefore spread betting is their thing.

Here we’ll cover some of the more common types of online sports bets, from traditional fixed odds and spread betting to the more modern inventions of in-play and exchange wagering to help you better understand what is available out there: The Different Types Of Sports Betting

What Is a Parlay?

A parlay is a group of individual bets combined to make one bet. Because it is a combination of bets, the fewest outcomes one can try and predict in one parlay wager is two. In the parlay, it is actually one wager predicting a series of outcomes and because it is only one amount being wagered the greater the number of outcomes being predicted, the greater the odds one is given if this is done correctly.

What is an over/under or total wager?

When someone chooses to wager on the over/under (aka total), what they are betting on is that the total combined scores of both teams will be either over or under a certain number. If someone is betting the over, they are simply betting that the combined total points scored by both teams in the game will be over a certain number. If someone is betting on the under they are banking that the combined scores of both teams participating in a game will be under a certain number.
