The Washington Nationals continue their series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Every time the Nationals win a game, I have this feeling they are ready to go on a tear that would enable them to challenge Atlanta in the National League East. That could still happen, but with the Braves beginning to rattle off the wins, the Nats have got to get going soon or it will be too late. A 4-1 victory at Miller Park was at least a step in the right direction, with Jordan Zimmerman snapping a three game skid. Zimmerman allowed four hits and walked four times over six scoreless innings, while the bats pounded out 12 hits and walked once. Bryce Harper paced the attack with his 16th homer and two runs batted in. Washington is scheduled to start Dan Haren versus Milwaukee on Saturday. Haren looks to duplicate his effort in a 4-1 victory over the Mets in which he gave up the lone run on three hits in seven innings pitched.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals - 8/3/2013

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee had just won three of four from the Cubs and appeared as if they were poised for a little bit of a run before Friday's defeat. The Brew Crew have struggled to get consistent hitting and pitching in 2013 and getting both units on the same page obviously hasn't happened often enough. The pitching was okay Friday, but the hitting left a lot to be desired. Starter Tom Gorzelanny was hit on the wrist by a ball and left the game after one inning, with four relievers allowing four runs. That was too much for the offense to over come on five hits and five walks, with Jonathan Lucroy leaving the yard for his 16th. Donovan Hand toes the rubber in Saturday's match up with visiting Washington. Hand has been in and out of the rotation in 2013, with five starts and 12 appearances out of the bull pen.

This no slam dunk no matter which team you back which says to me use plenty of caution. I'll try the Brew Crew but I won't be surprised by any thing I see...
