The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Coors Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Tuesday opener, the Rockies managed a blowout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Louis took care of the Yankees over the weekend, bagging a three-game sweep at home. On Tuesday versus the Rockies, the Cardinals gave up a whopping 22 hits in a 16-5 loss. Starting pitcher Miles Mikolas lasted just 2.2 frames with 10 earned on 14 hits.

Starter for the Wednesday game will be St. Louis’ Jose Quintana. Over his 20 starts this year Quintana is 3-5 with a 3.50 ERA. In 103.0 innings total he has 40 earned, 100 hits, 31 walks and 89 Ks.

Over on the Rockies’ side, they played the Diamondbacks over the weekend and only managed one win in three games. On Tuesday, Colorado scored nine runs during a wild third inning. Ryan Feltner put up 5.2 innings with five earned on four hits and three walks in the starting role.

Kyle Freeland will make the start for the Rockies on Wednesday. This year in 21 starts Freeland is 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA. In 120.1 innings he’s got 61 earned on 127 hits and 37 walks with 89 strikeouts.

The Cardinals are 19-7 in their last 26 in game two of a series and 25-10 in their last 35 versus a lefty starter. St. Louis is 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 2-6 in their last eight Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five versus a lefty starter. The over is 12-5-1 in Colorado’s last 18 Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with the Cardinals. Quintana is on a nice roll right now. In his last three starts he’s got just one earned run on nine hits and four walks in 18.2 innings total. As for Freeland, he’s been doing well lately himself with a 3-0 record over his last trio. In that time Freeland has five earned over 18.2 innings. This should be a pretty fun starter matchup, and I’d imagine a (relatively) low-scoring affair here, at least initially.
