Chicago White Sox vs. Pittsburgh Pirates – 8/25/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-25 20:10:00 EDT

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox meet in interleague action in an MLB matchup from Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to build on a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, taking Sunday’s finale by a final count of 5-4. Gregory Polanco went 2 for 3 with a two-run home run while Adam Frazier, Bryan Reynolds and Jarrod Dyson all had RBIs as well to cap off Pittsburgh’s scoring as a team in the win. Erik Gonzalez and JT Riddle each added a double as well while Cole Tucker chipped in a base knock of his own to finish off the offense for the Pirates in the victory. JT Brubaker allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Chris Stratton got the win to improve to 1-0 in relief while Richard Rodriguez picked up his 1st save as well.  Steven Brault will start here for the Pirates and is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. This will be Brault’s first career start against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will try to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Cubs in their last outing. Jose Abreu’s 2nd inning home run was the lone RBI the White Sox would plate in the losing effort. Nomar Mazara went 2 for 4 at the dish while Danny Mendick, James McCann, Eloy Jimenez and Yoan Moncada each added a base knock as well to finish off the offense for Chicago in defeat. Dylan Cease took the loss, falling to 4-2 after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Lucas Giolito will start here and is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. This will be Giolito’s second career start against Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is 32-65 in their last 97 games overall and 19-42 in their last 61 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 interleague games. Chicago is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall and 5-0 in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter. Pittsburgh is 8-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.

I think it goes without saying that the Pittsburgh Pirates are going to cool off at some point, but until it happens, why not try our luck one more time. Lucas Giolito’s coming off of his best start of the year for the White Sox where he struck out 13 over seven shutout innings, but interleague play’s been Giolito’s weakness, posting a 2-7 career record with an ERA just shy of seven. Brault’s been really good in the starter role this season, as he’s sitting on 12 scoreless innings with 9 K’s and only three hits allowed across four starts. I think if Brault shows up here and the Pirates can scratch across a couple of runs, the Pirates could have a shot at the big win here. Give me Pittsburgh and the heavy plus money in this one.
