The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Friday in MLB action from Chase Field. The Rockies are fresh off a series versus the Nationals this week. Colorado was able to win two of those three games. As for the Diamondbacks, they just finished up against the Giants. Arizona lost the first two games in that set, then on Thursday in the finale the Diamondbacks fell by one run. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado fell to the Nationals 5-4 on Monday but then struck back for wins 3-1 Tuesday and 10-5 on Wednesday to take the series. Game three starter Peter Lambert put up five earned on eight hits and a walk in just 2.0 innings, but he was bailed out by the offense.

For the starter job in the Friday game, the Rockies are going with Jon Gray. This year Gray has 145.0 innings with 133 hits, 76 runs (69 earned), 18 homers allowed, 58 walks, 150 Ks and a 4.28 ERA.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they fell to the Giants 6-4 on Tuesday and 1-0 in the Wednesday game. In the Thursday finale Arizona posted 12 hits but ultimately fell 5-4. Starter Madison Bumgarner put up 5.0 innings with four earned on eight hits.

For the starting pitcher gig on Friday the Diamondbacks are sending out Humberto Castellanos. This year Castellanos is 2-2 with a 4.28 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

The Rockies are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 28-60 in their last 88 road games. Colorado is also 1-4 in their last five versus a right-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 16-35 in their last 51 in game one of a series and 35-95 in their last 130 overall. Arizona is 2-10 in their last 12 at home as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Rockies here. Gray needs a bounce-back outing, though. He’s coming off four earned runs on five hits and two homers in 4.2 innings versus the Giants his last time up. Still, Gray did fairly well in his two starts before that, with a combined 9.0 innings, four earned, eight hits and four walks. Colorado should be okay if Gray can put together a quality outing in this one.
