The Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants meet Saturday in MLB action from Oracle Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series between these teams over the weekend. In the Friday opener, the Giants secured a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Oakland played a four-game set versus the Rangers this week. The A’s managed wins in the Tuesday and Thursday games for a split in that series. In the opener versus the Giants on Friday, the A’s notched six hits but ended up falling 2-0. Sean Manaea put up 6.0 innings with three hits and one earned.

For the starter job in the Saturday game, the A’s are sending out Frankie Montas. Over his 82.2 innings this year Montas has 91 hits, 49 runs (44 earned), 13 homers allowed, 21 walks, 87 Ks and a 4.79 ERA.

Over on the Giants’ side, they played a pair versus the Angels this week, winning both 5-0 and 9-3. In the Friday game versus the A’s, San Francisco peppered in a couple of runs in the fourth and seventh which was good enough for the win. Johnny Cueto put up 7.0 innings with five hits and no earned.
For the starter slot in the Saturday game, the Giants will send out Alex Wood. In his 66.0 innings this year Wood has 58 hits, 32 runs (30 earned), nine homers allowed, 21 walks, 65 strikeouts and a 4.09 ERA overall.

The A’s are 7-1 in their last eight in game two of a series and 43-15 in their last 58 road games versus a lefty starter. Oakland is 42-16 in their last 58 overall versus a lefty starter and the under is 7-3 in their last 10 road games versus a left-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Giants are 37-17 in their last 54 with the total set at 7.0-8.5 and 35-16 in their last 51 versus a right-handed starter. The over is 15-5-1 in San Francisco’s last 21 in game two of a series and 7-3-1 in their last 11 Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going with the A’s here. Wood has been pretty spotty lately, with four or more earned runs in four of his last five starts. As for Montas, he had some issues in his last outing versus the Rangers, coughing up eight earned on nine hits in 5.2 innings. That said, Montas had been on a good run prior to that with seven earned over his previous four starts. If Montas can bounce back to post a quality outing in this one the A’s should be in good shape.
