The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs meet Monday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. The Phillies are coming off a series versus the Padres. After winning the first two games, on Sunday Philadelphia lost big to miss the sweep. As for the Cubs, they played the Reds over the weekend. Chicago fell in the first two games, then on Sunday the Cubs lost another close one. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Philadelphia managed a 4-3 win versus the Padres on Friday, then followed that up with a 4-2 win on Saturday. In the Sunday game, the Phillies coughed up five runs in the first three innings during an 11-1 blowout defeat. Philly gave up 15 hits to San Diego in that one.

For the Monday matchup, the Phillies will send Matt Moore to the hill. In his 23.1 innings this year Moore has 27 hits, 17 runs (15 earned), five homers, 12 walks, 19 Ks and a 5.79 ERA overall.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they didn’t have much luck this weekend versus the Reds, taking losses 2-1 and 3-2 in the first pair. On Sunday, Chicago lost another one 3-2 despite having a 2-0 lead at one point. Kyle Hendricks put up 6.0 innings with five hits and one earned run.

For the Monday game, the Cubs will go with Zach Davies as the starter. Over his 83.1 innings this year Davies has 75 hits, 41 runs (40 earned), six homers allowed, 44 walks, 55 Ks and a 4.32 ERA.

The Phillies are 17-35 in their last 52 road games and 4-10 in their last 14 in game one of a series. Philly is 0-4 in their last four Monday games and the under is 6-1 in the last seven in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 49-21 in their last 70 home games after a road trip of a week or more and 22-8 in their last 30 home games. Chicago is 0-4 in their last four Monday games and 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Cubs, so long as the offense shows up. Davies has one bad outing in his last five (eight earned in 6.0 innings versus the Marlins), but otherwise he’s been good in that span. Davies has just two earned on five hits across 22.2 innings in the other quartet. I like Moore to pitch well here also, so this should be a fun matchup.
