The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Thursday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the final installment in a four-game series between these teams this week. After a split in the first pair of games, on Wednesday San Francisco secured a big win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Francisco notched an 11-8 victory in the Monday opener of this set, but then fell 3-1 on Tuesday. In the Wednesday game three, the Giants posted four runs in the seventh on the way to a 7-1 victory. Kevin Gausman put up 6.0 innings with five hits and one earned.

For the starter job in the Thursday game, the Giants will turn to Alex Wood. Across his 98.2 innings of work this year Wood has 86 hits, 46 runs (42 earned), 12 homers allowed, 31 walks, 105 Ks and a 3.83 ERA overall.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they put up three runs in the second inning on Tuesday and held on for the victory. In the Wednesday game, Arizona couldn’t get much going in the loss. Starter Zac Gallen lasted 5.2 frames with four hits, three walks and three earned.

Starting pitcher for the Thursday finale will be the Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly. In his 129.1 frames this season Kelly has 129 hits, 67 runs (63 earned), 16 homers allowed, 30 walks, 111 strikeouts and a 4.38 ERA.

The Giants are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 7-2 in their last nine in game four of a series. The Giants are 23-11 in their last 34 road games and 36-15 in their last 51 versus a right-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 1-7 in their last eight Thursday games and 16-52 in their last 68 overall. Arizona is 12-47 in their last 59 with a total of 7.0-8.5 and 9-24 in their last 33 in game four of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Giants, but probably staying away. Wood has given up eight earned over his last three outings, a span of 15.1 innings and 17 hits. As for Kelly, he’s been reasonably solid on nine earned over his last three games in a span of 20.1 frames and 19 hits. I like both guys to flirt with a quality start here at least, with a tight game until the later innings.
