The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres meet Tuesday in MLB action from Petco Park. San Francisco is coming off a weekend series versus the Braves. The Giants managed to win two out of three games in that set. As for the Padres, they played the Cardinals in their last series, getting swept in three games. San Francisco eked out a 6-5 win over the Braves on Friday, then kept it going with a 2-0 win in game two Saturday. The Giants failed to notch the sweep with a 3-0 loss on Sunday, however. In that one, San Francisco starter Anthony DeSclafani went 6.0 innings with two earned on six hits.

For the starter gig in the Tuesday game, the Giants will send out Kevin Gausman. Across his 175.0 innings this year Gausman has 132 hits with 60 runs (54 earned), 16 homers allowed, 49 walks, 208 Ks and a 2.78 ERA.

Over on the Padres’ side, they had some trouble with the surging Cardinals over the weekend, losing 8-2 Friday, 3-2 Saturday and 8-7 on Sunday. Finale starter Jake Arrieta went just 0.1 innings with four earned on three hits and a walk.

For the starting pitcher job on Tuesday, the Padres didn’t initially announce a name.

The Giants are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and 19-7 in their last 26 after an off day. San Francisco is 39-15 in their last 54 road games and 5-2 in their last seven versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 2-8 in their last 10 overall and 1-4 in their last five on Tuesday. San Diego is 1-6 in their last seven after a loss and 2-8 in their last 10 on grass.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Giants. That’s somewhat dependent on Gausman having a good outing, though. Gausman hasn’t been spectacular over his last few games, but he’s kept the damage relatively minimal. In his most recent trio, he’s got 18.0 innings with 10 earned on 21 hits, three homers and two walks. If Gausman can finish somewhere in the neighborhood of a quality start here I think SF will be in good shape.
