The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins meet Wednesday in MLB action from Target Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Tuesday opener, the Twins eked out a one-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Detroit played a one-off game versus the White Sox on Monday, eventually falling 8-7 in a tough result. On Tuesday versus Minnesota, the Tigers scored two in the top of the ninth but couldn’t come back in a 3-2 defeat. Tyler Alexander put up 6.0 innings with one earned on four hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Tigers will send out Casey Mize. Over his 146.1 innings this year Mize has 125 hits, 61 runs (59 earned), 23 homers allowed, 41 walks, 114 Ks and a 3.63 ERA.

Over on the Twins’ side, they played the Blue Jays over the weekend and were able to win two of the four games. On Tuesday, Minnesota put up two runs in the seventh to keep the team ahead for good. Charlie Barnes finished with 4.0 clean innings, three hits and three walks.

Starting pitcher for the Wednesday game will be the Twins’ Michael Pineda. In his 103.2 frames this year Pineda has 106 hits, 48 runs (43 earned), 17 homers allowed, 21 walks, 83 Ks and a 3.73 ERA.

The Tigers are 17-5 in their last 22 Wednesday games and 50-110 in the last 160 versus the AL Central. Detroit is 35-76 in their last 111 on the road versus a right-handed starter as well.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games and 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series. The over is 9-4-1 in Minnesota’s last 14 Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Minnesota. Pineda has been solid over his last three games, posting just four earned runs in 15.2 innings on 16 hits and three walks. As for Mize, he’s given up two earned on five hits and a walk in his last two outings over 6.0 frames. Mize hasn’t gone past 3.0 innings in any of his last four appearances, but I like him to pitch well while he’s out there in an eventual Twins win.
