Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 10/3/2021

The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Sunday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the final installment in a three-game series and the last game of the regular season. Colorado coughed up seven runs in the third inning Friday but made a miraculous comeback in a 9-7 win. On Saturday the Rockies had seven team hits in a 11-2 blowout loss. Antonio Senzatela lasted just 0.2 innings with six earned on six hits and two walks. 

For the starter gig in the Sunday finale the Rockies didn’t initially announce a name. 

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they had nine team hits Friday but couldn’t score after the wild third inning. On Saturday Arizona scored six runs in the first inning during the win. Starter Zac Gallen put up 6.0 frames with two earned on two walks and six hits.

For the starting pitcher slot on Sunday the Diamondbacks will send out Humberto Mejia. This year Mejia has 17.2 innings with 26 hits, 15 earned runs, five homers, eight walks, 15 Ks and a 7.64 ERA. 

The Rockies are 29-60 in their last 89 road games and 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games. Colorado is 15-41 in their last 56 road games versus a right-handed starter as well. 

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 35-97 in their last 132 overall and 12-43 in their last 55 in game three of a series. Arizona is also 3-13 in their last 16 home games.

PICK: I’m probably trying the Rockies but not going near it. Mejia has been spotty since his return, and he’s got nine earned over his last two starts on 12 hits, three homers and five walks in 6.2 combined frames. As for Colorado, the early hole in the Saturday game doomed the offense, but there wasn’t much going on in the loss. The Rockies will have to get the bats going if they want a W to close the season.
