Seattle Mariners
Seattle took losses to the Blue Jays 3-2 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday. The Mariners were able to stave off the sweep with a 10-8 win in the finale, however. Sunday starter Marco Gonzales lasted 3.0 innings with five earned on eight hits and a walk.
As starter for the Tuesday matchup it’ll be Seattle’s Logan Gilbert. This year Gilbert is 1-1 with a 4.23 ERA and 34 Ks in 27.2 innings over five starts. In his career Gilbert is 20-12 with a 3.81 ERA in 61 starts.
Oakland Athletics
Over on the Oakland side, they lost to the Reds 11-7 Friday and 3-2 Saturday before a 5-4 victory in the finale. A’s starting pitcher Ken Waldichuk managed 5.2 innings, three earned, six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in that one.
It’ll be Mason Miller in the Tuesday start for the Athletics. In his two starts so far (and the first two of his MLB career) Miller is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 8.1 frames.
The Mariners are 5-0 in their last five after an off day and 15-6 in their last 21 Tuesday games. Seattle is 1-4 in the last five overall.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 20-41 in their last 61 versus a team with a losing record and 28-61 in their last 89 at home. Oakland is 17-44 in their last 61 overall.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with Seattle here. Gilbert hasn’t been spectacular so far this year but he’s on a decent run. In his last three starts Gilbert has nine earned runs on 16 hits and two walks in 17.2 combined innings. As for Miller, he’s coming off four earned on five hits and a walk over 4.0 innings in a loss to the Angels back on April 25. Miller should be able to post a decent outing in this one, but the advantage is probably still with Seattle.
