Boston Red Sox vs Atlanta Braves Pitching Matchup

Nick Pivetta gets the ball for the Boston Red Sox, and he is 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. Pivetta will pitch for the first time in over a month after dealing with an elbow injury. Pivetta has allowed 8 hits and 1 run through 11 innings this season. Pivetta is 7-4 with a 5.04 ERA and 77 strikeouts in his career against the Atlanta Braves.

Chris Sale gets the ball for the Atlanta Braves, and he is 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. Sale has a 2.79 ERA and .159 allowed abetting average in 19.1 home innings. Sale should be up for this game after spending 6 years in Boston before signing with the Braves this year. Sale is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 45 strikeouts in his career against the Boston Red Sox.

Why the Atlanta Braves will win

  • Probable Starting Pitcher: Chris Sale Record this season: 4-1 ERA: 3.44
  • The home team has won seven of the Braves’ last eight games.
  • The Red Sox have lost four of their last five games.
  • The Red Sox have failed to cover the run line each of their last four night games against teams that held a winning record.
  • The Braves have covered the run line in each of their last four games against AL East opponents.
  • The Braves have led after 5 innings in each of their last four games against AL East opponents.
  • The Braves have led after 3 innings in each of their last four games against AL East opponents.

Why the Boston Red Sox will win

  • Probable Starting Pitcher: Nick Pivetta Record this season: 1-1 ERA: 0.82
  • The Braves have lost each of their last four night games after playing the previous day.
  • The Red Sox have won 14 of their last 17 road games against NL East opponents following a road loss.
  • The Braves have failed to cover the run line each of their last nine Wednesday night games against American League opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Red Sox have covered the run line in seven of their last eight road games following a road loss.

Total Runs Facts

  • Each of the Braves’ last seven home games have gone UNDER the total runs line.
  • Each of the Red Sox’s last four games against National League opponents have gone UNDER the total runs line.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Braves’ last six games against American League opponents.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Red Sox’s last three night games.

Atlanta Braves vs Boston Red Sox Prediction

The Atlanta Braves should be favored at home because they’re the better team on paper and Chris Sale has been solid this season and is missing bats at an above average level. Nick Pivetta also hasn’t pitched in a month due to an elbow issue. With that said, Pivetta was off to a strong start through 11 innings before getting hurt and if he can return to that form, he gives the Red Sox a fighting chance. The Braves aren’t scoring runs as of late and Pivetta is not an easy pitcher to face assuming he’s in decent form. We’re getting more than 1.5 times our money. I’ll take a shot in the dark with the Red Sox on the road.
