Baltimore managed a 14-8 victory in the Monday opener of this series, but then fell 13-9 on Tuesday. In game three the O’s put up seven hits in a 3-1 loss. Starter Dean Kremer put up 5.0 innings, three earned, six hits and four walks.
Starter for Baltimore on Thursday will be Mike Baumann. In 11 games (two starts) this year Baumann is 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA. In 25.0 innings he has 12 earned with 28 hits and eight walks with 17 Ks.
Over on the Sox’ side, they scored 11 innings across a two-inning span during the Tuesday victory. On Wednesday Boston scored one run in three different innings on the way to the win. Rich Hill went 6.0 clean frames in the start with five hits and a walk.
Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for the Sox on Thursday. Over his 18 starts so far Eovaldi is 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA. In 99.2 innings total he has 46 earned on 108 hits and 18 walks with 96 Ks.
The O’s are 20-43 in their last 63 Thursday games and 6-13 in their last 19 in game four of a series. Baltimore is 103-212 in the last 315 versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 18-43 in the last 61 versus the AL East and 16-36 in their last 52 versus a team with a winning record.
PICK: I’m going with the Sox. Eovaldi has been pretty good over his last few starts, even with a spotty outing versus the Royals mixed in there. In his most recent trio, Eovaldi has six earned in 18.1 innings total, going at least 6.0 frames in each. As for Baumann, this is just his third start of the year but he’s coming off a decent effort with two earned in 4.0 frames versus Houston. Overall Eovaldi and the Sox should have the edge here if they play well.
