In this article we will formulate a Boston Red Sox vs San Francisco Giants prediction for this MLB game on Tuesday, April 30th at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game one in this series.

Red Sox Looking to Stay Hot at the Plate

The Boston Red Sox are 16-13 this year and they have won six of their last nine games. Boston is coming off of a series win against the Cubs, where they won two out of three games and scored 22 runs in games two and three. Prior to that series win, the Red Sox lost two out of three against Cleveland and swept the Pirates in three games. Boston is currently third in the AL East, just behind the Yankees and Orioles.

The Boston pitching staff has a 2.68 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and a .224 opponent batting average. The Red Sox offense has scored 139 runs with a .246 batting average and a .319 on base percentage. Jarren Duran is batting .252 with one home run and 13 RBI’s for the Red Sox. Boston has the best team ERA in the MLB through 29 games and they have scored at least four runs in eight of their last ten games.

Giants Haven’t Played Great on the Road

The San Francisco Giants are 14-15 this season and they have alternated wins and losses over their last five games. San Francisco is coming off of a series win against Pittsburgh, where they won two out of three games. Prior to that series win, the Giants won two out of three against the Mets and split four games against the Diamondbacks. San Francisco is just 5-8 on the road, but they have split their last six games away from home.

The San Francisco pitching staff has a 4.43 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and a .254 opponent batting average. The Giants offense has scored 116 runs with a .245 batting average and a .311 on base percentage. Matt Chapman is batting .221 with four home runs and 14 RBI’s for the Giants this season. San Francisco is second in the NL West, a few games behind the Dodgers for first, but they are in the bottom third of the MLB for team ERA and runs scored.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Boston is Cooper Criswell, who is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 11.1 innings pitched this year. Criswell has allowed three earned runs and 11 hits over 11.1 innings in three outings this year against Cleveland (twice) and the Angels. The projected starting pitcher for San Francisco is Logan Webb, who is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 38.2 innings pitched this season. Webb has allowed two earned runs or fewer in his last four starts, which includes 15.0 straight shutout innings in his last two starts against the Mets and Diamondbacks. Webb is the better starting pitcher in this matchup and San Francisco is 4-0 in his last four outings.

Boston Red Sox vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

Boston comes into this game a few games above the .500 mark, but they haven’t been very good at home and have some issues in the field. The Red Sox have hit the ball pretty well lately and will look to continue that here, but I think Webb is going to have another solid outing. I do trust the Red Sox offense more than San Francisco’s, but I don’t love Criswell on the mound, especially trying to be better than Logan Webb. My Boston Red Sox vs San Francisco Giants prediction is a Giants win on the road.
