The Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. This will be the finale in a three-game series this week. The Diamondbacks posted a three-run win in the opener, then on Tuesday Arizona eked out another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the seventh inning of the Monday opener, cruising to a 6-3 victory. On Tuesday Arizona scored six runs in the fourth inning but had to hang on late for an 8-7 win. Drey Jameson lasted 3.2 frames in the start with two earned, three hits and four walks.

As starter for the Wednesday matchup it’ll be Madison Bumgarner. In his three starts this year Bumgarner is 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA. He’s got eight Ks in 13.2 innings. Bumgarner is 134-123 in his career with a 3.45 ERA in 357 games (354 starts).

St. Louis Cardinals

Over on the St. Louis side, they did fairly well outside of the seventh inning on Monday but couldn’t overcome the damage. On Tuesday the Cardinals showed some late life with three ninth-inning runs but couldn’t complete the comeback.  Starter Jordan Montgomery gave up seven earned on 10 hits in 4.0 innings.

Jake Woodford will make the start for the Cardinals on Wednesday. Over his three starts so far Woodford is 0-2 with a 5.65 ERA and 11 Ks in 14.1 innings. Woodford is 8-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 68 career games (13 starts).

The Diamondbacks are 5-0 in their last five Wednesday games and 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series. Arizona is 50-105 in their last 155 road games.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 16-6 in their last 22 in game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 3-0-1 in St. Louis’ last four in game three of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with the Cardinals here. Woodford had a pretty rough debut this year—and he didn’t follow it up well with 4.2 innings and three earned in a loss to Milwaukee. That said, Woodford pitched well his last time out, with 5.1 clean frames, seven hits and a walk. On Tuesday the Cardinals had the one bad inning in the fourth, however the team played fairly well otherwise. If St. Louis can avoid the crooked numbers in this finale I think they can prevent the sweep.

Andrew's Free Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -161
