The Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox meet Monday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. The Rangers played the Blue Jays over the weekend, splitting the first pair. In the Sunday rubber match Texas bagged a four-run win. As for Chicago, they’re fresh off a series versus the Mariners. The Sox also split their first pair, then on Sunday Chicago lost by four. Texas Rangers 

The Rangers managed a 2-1 loss to Toronto on Friday but then got a 4-2 win in game two. In the Sunday rubber match Texas took the series with an 11-7 win. Starting pitcher Jon Gray lasted just 2.1 innings with six earned on six hits and three walks. 

For the starter job on Monday the Rangers will send out Andrew Heaney. Over his 13 starts this year Heaney is 4-4 with a 4.05 ERA and 70 Ks in 66.2 innings. Heaney is 40-46 with a 4.51 ERA in 150 career games (139 starts). 

Chicago White Sox 

Over on the White Sox’ side, they lost to the Mariners 3-2 in the opener but then managed a 4-3 win on Saturday. In the finale Chicago had six team hits in a 5-1 loss. Lance Lynn went 7.0 innings in the start with three earned on four hits and two walks with a nice 16 Ks. 

Chicago will send out Tanner Banks for the Monday start. Banks is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 10 Ks this year. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I might take a stab on the Rangers here. Heaney hasn’t been pitching too badly lately, even though he’s just 0-1 over his last trio. In those three starts Heaney has seven earned in 13.2 innings on 15 hits and 10 walks. If he can notch a quality outing here Texas should be within striking distance. The Rangers offense did well on 15 team hits in the Sunday finale against the Jays, so another performance like that would be most welcome in this opener.
