In this article we will formulate a Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs prediction for this MLB game on Saturday, June 8th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game three in the series.

Reds Look to Extend Winning Streak

The Cincinnati Reds are 31-33 this year and they have won six games in a row. Cincinnati has won the first two games in this series by scores of 8-4 and 3-2. Prior to this series, the Reds swept the Rockies in three games, won two out of three against the Cubs, and lost two out of three against the Cardinals. Cincinnati is 11-3 in their last 14 games and they have climbed into a tie for second in the NL Central.

The Cincinnati pitching staff has a 3.90 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a .237 opponent batting average. The Reds offense has scored 282 runs with a .228 batting average and a .310 on bae percentage. Spencer Steer is batting .238 with seven home runs and 40 RBI’s for the Reds this season. Cincinnati is 12th in runs scored this year and they have scored at least four runs in seven of their last eight games.

Cubs Continue to Struggle

The Chicago Cubs are 31-33 this season and they have lost three of their last five games. Chicago has dropped the first two games in the series and they have allowed 11 runs in the two losses. Prior to this series, the Cubs won both games against the White Sox, lost two out of three against the Reds, and lost three out of four against the Brewers. Chicago is just 4-11 in their last 15 games, but they are still tied for second in the NL Central.

The Chicago pitching staff has a 3.98 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a .243 opponent batting average. The Cubs offense has scored 277 runs with a .226 batting average and a .308 on base percentage. Cody Bellinger is batting .253 with eight home runs and 29 RBI’s for the Cubs this season. Chicago is 16th in team ERA this season and they have allowed at least five runs in eight of their last nine games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Cincinnati is Andrew Abbott, who is 4-5 with a 3.39 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP over 69.0 innings pitched this year. Abbott has allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of his last five starts, but has allowed nine earned runs and 14 hits in his last two outings against the Cardinals and Rockies. The projected starting pitcher for Chicago is Ben Brown, who is 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over 51.1 innings pitched this season. Brown has allowed zero earned runs in two of his last three starts, but did allow five earned runs and six hits against the Reds last weekend.

Why the Cincinnati Reds will win

The Reds have won each of their last six games.
The Cubs have lost each of their last six day games against National League opponents.
The Cubs have failed to cover the run line in each of their last 11 day games against National League opponents.
The Reds have covered the run line in six of their last seven day games against teams that held a losing record.
The Cubs have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last five games.

Total Runs Facts

Six of the Reds’ last seven home games have gone UNDER the total runs line.
Eight of the Cubs’ last 10 games have gone OVER the total runs line.
The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Reds’ last seven games against NL Central opponents.
The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Cubs’ last five games against National League opponents.

Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs Prediction

Chicago limps into this game really struggling over the last month and they are just 13-20 on the road. On the other side, Cincinnati has been one of the hottest teams in the MLB recently, but they are just 16-17 on the road. The Reds have plenty of momentum coming into this game and they will have Abbott on the mound, who has been mostly good this year. The Cubs are going with Ben Brown, who has also been solid this year, but got lit up by the Reds last weekend. This Chicago team is nowhere near the team that started the season and I think the Reds will continue to win with another strong outing from Abbott. My Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs prediction is for the Reds to get the win.
