The Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Guardians meet Sunday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the finale in a four-game weekend series. The Guardians won the first pair, then on Saturday Cleveland kept it going with a four-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals had some troubles in the first pair of games in this series, losing 6-1 Thursday and 3-0 in game two. In the Saturday matchup, KC fell behind 5-0 after four innings but ultimately did gain some ground in a 10-6 loss. Starter Brady Singer managed 5.0 innings, six earned, 13 hits and a walk.
For the starter job in the Sunday finale, the Royals are sending out Ryan Yarbrough. This year in 10 games (three starts) Yarbrough is 1-4 with a 6.15 ERA and 14 Ks in 26.1 innings. Yarbrough is 41-35 with a 4.41 career ERA in 137 games (62 starts).
Cleveland Guardians
Over on the Guardians’ side, they limited Kansas City to just two hits in the Friday victory. In game three Cleveland scored in all but two innings during the victory. Gavin Williams managed 5.2 innings in the start with three earned, eight hits and a walk.
Shane Bieber will take the mound for the Sunday start. In his 18 starts this year Bieber is 5-5 with a 3.66 ERA and 89 Ks in 110.2 innings. Bieber is 59-31 with a 3.24 ERA in 131 career games (129 starts).
The Royals are 14-37 in their last 51 overall and 4-11 in their last 15 Sunday games. KC is 15-45 in their last 60 road games.
Meanwhile, the Guardians are 5-1 in their last six Sunday games and 11-5 in their last 16 overall. The under is 27-10-2 in Cleveland’s last 39 at home.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with the Guardians. Bieber needs a bounce-back outing here, though. He was a bit sketchy in his last start, going 4.2 innings with four earned on six hits and five walks in a no-decision versus the Braves on July 4. On Saturday Cleveland had their offense working very well; eight different batters had at least one hit. That said, things got a little sketchy on the mound after the third inning. Nonetheless, I think the Guardians will take the four-game sweep on Sunday.
