The Miami Marlins and the Colorado Rockies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Coors Field. This will be the third installment in a four-game series. The Rockies took a two-run win in the opener, then in game two Colorado kept it going with a close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins out-hit the Rockies 11-7 in the Monday opener of this series, but ultimately fell 5-3. In Tuesday’s matchup, the Marlins couldn’t come back from a 5-1 deficit and lost 5-4. Starter Eury Perez lasted 4.1 innings with three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
For the starter job on Wednesday it’ll be Miami’s Sandy Alcantara. Over his nine starts so far Alcantara is 1-5 with a 5.05 ERA and 54 strikeouts over 57.0 innings. Alcantara is 35-48 in his career with a 3.25 ERA in 127 games (119 starts).
Colorado Rockies
Over on the Rockies’ side, they scored two runs in both the first and seventh innings during Monday’s win. On Tuesday Colorado scored four runs in the fifth inning and got out-hit 11-7. Austin Gomber put up 5.2 innings in the start with three earned, four hits and a walk.
Karl Kauffmann will take the mound for the Rockies in the Wednesday start. In his lone start this year (the first of his career), Kauffmann posted 4.1 innings, four earned, seven hits and two walks.
The Marlins are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 5-11 in their last 16 Wednesday games. The over is 4-1-1 in Miami’s last six in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Rockies are 6-1 in their last seven in game three of a series and 9-20 in their last 29 versus the NL East. Colorado is 7-16 in their last 23 Wednesday games.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with the Marlins in this one. Alcantara will need to have a good start, though. Over his last pair Alcantara has struggled, posting an 0-2 record, 10 earned, 12 hits and five walks over a combined 13.1 innings. On Tuesday the Marlins had a pretty nice offensive day with four different players getting multiple hits. Miami also had a decent bullpen outing but ultimately couldn’t overcome the deficit. I like the Marlins’ luck to change in this one.
