The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers meet Tuesday in MLB action from Comerica Park. Kansas City is coming off a weekend set versus the Astros. The Royals were able to power out a sweep in that matchup. As for Detroit, they played the Athletics in their weekend series, losing two of four games for a split. Kansas City Royals 

The Royals are on a roll right now—unfortunately it’s a bit too late in the season, though. Kansas City took out the Astros 7-5, 3-2 and 6-5 over the weekend, which makes six straight wins (in consecutive sweeps) for the Royals. In Sunday’s victory, Kansas City got two solo homers from Nelson Velazquez and a two-run shot from Salvador Perez. 

Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Royals on Tuesday. Over his 28 games (25 starts) this year Greinke is 1-15 with a 5.37 ERA and 90 Ks in 132.1 innings. Greinke has gone 0-4 with a 5.61 ERA over his last seven games (four starts).

Over on the Tigers’ side, they split a four-game series versus the Athletics over the weekend. Detroit lost 8-2 Friday and 4-1 Saturday, but otherwise took wins 7-3 in the opener and 2-0 in the finale. In Sunday’s win, the Tigers got both RBI from Spencer Torkelson. Parker Meadows (two hits) and Matt Vierling plated the runs. 

The Tigers will send out Reese Olson as the Tuesday starter. Olson is 5-7 with a 4.13 ERA and 96 Ks this year.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I might take a stab on the Royals here. Probably staying away, though. Greinke hasn’t been pitching well lately (and for much of the season, in fact). Over his last pair of outings Grienke has put up two earned in 5.2 innings on eight hits and a walk however, so he hasn’t been too bad in those two. That said, if Greinke isn’t on point early Detroit should be have some opportunities at the plate. The Royals have scored three or more runs in five of the six games during their current win streak however, so I think they’ll be able to keep pace with the Tigers in this one. Should be a fun matchup, but there’s not a ton of intrigue involved with the lack of playoff implications.
