The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Friday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the second installment in a four-game weekend series. In the Thursday opener, the Giants took a four-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants played the Nationals this week, winning Tuesday 4-1 but otherwise falling 5-1 and 11-6. On Thursday versus Arizona, San Francisco managed four runs in the ninth inning along the way to a 6-2 victory. Starter Alex Cobb finished on 7.1 innings, seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The Giants will send out John Brebbia in the start on Friday. This year Brebbia is 1-0 with a 5.93 ERA and 21 strikeouts to his credit.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Over on the Arizona side, they lost two of three to the Marlins in their last series (the win came Monday). On Thursday the Diamondbacks couldn’t get anything going until the ninth inning in the defeat. Tommy Henry put up 6.2 innings in the start with two earned on five hits and two walks.

Ryne Nelson will take the mound for the Diamondbacks on Friday. Over his seven starts so far Nelson is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 22 Ks in 36.0 innings. Nelson is 2-3 with a 4.47 ERA in 10 career games.

The Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 versus a right-handed starter and 4-1 in the last five in game two of a series. The under is 7-0 in San Francisco’s last seven in game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series. The under is 4-0-2 in Arizona’s last six Friday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll try the Diamondbacks in this one, even with the rough opener. Probably staying away, though. Nelson is coming off a nice start versus the Nationals, notching two earned in 5.0 innings on seven hits and a walk. He did have some trouble in the pair before that, though (9.0 innings; 10 earned). On Thursday San Francisco had a couple of big innings along the way to the win, and Arizona couldn’t make much of anything happen offensively. That said, the Diamondbacks got at least one hit from seven different players (Dominic Fletcher had three) so there was a spark of offense present. I think Arizona can improve in game two.
