Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona lost the opener of this series 8-2 on Thursday, but the team bounced back for a tense 2-1 win on Friday in game two. In the Saturday matchup, the Diamondbacks gave up five runs in the first inning during a 10-1 blowout loss. Madison Bumgarner lasted 4.0 innings with five earned on four hits and four walks.
Starting pitcher for Sunday’s finale will be Zach Davies. Last year over 27 starts Davies went 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA. In 134.1 innings total Davies had 102 strikeouts and a 1.30 WHIP. In his career Davies is 58-53 with a 4.14 ERA.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Over on the Dodgers’ side, they were out-hit 7-5 in the Friday loss and had a brief lead in the seventh inning. On Saturday Los Angeles scored another three runs in the fifth inning during the win. Clayton Kershaw lasted 6.0 clean frames with four hits, no walks and nine Ks in the starting role.
Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the Dodgers’ Sunday starter role. In 25 games (24 starts) last year Syndergaard went 10-10 with a 3.94 ERA. In 134.2 innings he managed 95 strikeouts and a 1.25 WHIP.
The Diamondbacks are 18-37 in their last 55 in game four of a series and 46-95 in their last 141 versus the NL West. Arizona is 15-33 in their last 48 Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 66-27 in their last 93 Sunday games and 68-27 in their last 95 overall. LA is 1-4 in their last five in game four of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with the Dodgers again in this one. Syndergaard didn’t have that great of a Spring Training however, so he’ll need a good bounce-back effort in his season debut. In four starts, Syndergaard went 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA. In 18.2 spring innings he posted 19 hits, 12 earned, three homers and 13 strikeouts. Syndergaard is a better pitcher than that however, and I think he’ll be fine here. On Saturday the Dodgers got off to a great start and there was very little to complain about overall. Los Angeles should be just fine here in the finale.
