The Colorado Rockies and the Cleveland Guardians meet Monday in MLB action from Progressive Field. Colorado is coming off a weekend series versus the Phillies. After losing two of the first three games in that set, on Sunday the Rockies fell by six runs. As for Cleveland, they played the Marlins over the weekend and lost the first pair. In the Sunday finale the Guardians took a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies beat the Phillies 5-0 on Thursday, but then lost 4-3 in each of the next two outings. On Sunday Colorado had a brief 3-2 lead but couldn’t score again in a 9-3 loss. Starter Jose Urena gave up four earned on four walks and three hits in 3.2 innings.

For the starter job in the Monday matchup the Rockies will send out Austin Gomber. In his four starts so far this year Gomber is 0-4 with a 12.12 ERA and 12 Ks in 16.1 innings. Gomber is 21-23 with a 5.00 ERA in 103 games (59 starts) over his career.

Cleveland Guardians

Over on the Cleveland side, they lost to the Marlins 6-1 and 3-2 in the Saturday doubleheader. On Sunday the Guardians posted 13 team hits on the way to a 7-4 victory. Starting pitcher Logan Allen put up 6.0 innings with five hits, one earned and a walk.

It’ll be Cal Quantrill in the starting role for the Guardians on Monday. In his four starts so far Quantrill is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Quantril is 32-17 with a 3.56 career ERA in 117 games (79 starts).

The Rockies are 15-36 in their last 51 road games and 2-5 in their last seven Monday games. Colorado is 10-28 in their last 38 overall.

Meanwhile, the Guardians are 5-1 in their last six Monday games and 11-5 in their last 16 interleague games. Cleveland is 3-12 in their last 15 interleague home games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Guardians here. Quantrill is coming off 6.0 shutout innings on four hits and a walk in a win over Detroit. He’s got six earned combined in 17.0 innings over his last three starts. Gomber, meanwhile, has struggled lately. He gave up nine earned in 2.0 innings during his last start. On Sunday Cleveland got a pretty good offensive effort to stave off the sweep. I think the Guardians will carry that momentum into this series and take a win in the opener.
