The Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Tigers took a four-run win in the opener, then on Tuesday the Guardians took a shutout win to even it up. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers scored three runs during the third inning in Monday’s opener and never looked back in a 6-2 win. On Tuesday Detroit out-hit the Guardians 9-7 in a 2-0 defeat. Starter Michael Lorenzen put up 7.0 innings with one earned on five hits.

For the starter job in the Wednesday matchup the Tigers will go with Eduardo Rodriguez. Over his seven starts so far Rodriguez is 3-2 with a 1.81 ERA and 39 Ks in 44.2 innings, Rodriguez is 72-46 with a 4.05 ERA in 183 career games (177 starts).

Cleveland Guardians

Over on the Cleveland side, they gave up 13 hits to Detroit in the opener, notching six for themselves. On Tuesday the Guardians got four hits and an RBI out of Amed Rosario. Shane Bieber put up 6.0 clean innings with seven hits and a walk.

Peyton Battenfield will take the mound for Cleveland on Wednesday. Over five games (four starts) so far Battenfield is 0-3 with a 4.07 ERA and 21 Ks in 24.1 innings.

The Tigers are 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games and 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series. The under is 5-2-1 in Detroit’s last eight in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Guardians are 7-2 in their last nine Wednesday games and 22-8 in their last 30 in game three of a series. Cleveland is 30-14 in the last 44 versus the AL Central.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m sticking with the Tigers here. Rodriguez has been pitching well lately. He’s got just one earned on seven hits and three walks in his last 20.2 innings over three starts. Rodriguez is 2-0 in that time. In the Tuesday game two, Detroit got a combined six hits from Spencer Torkelson and Akil Baddoo in a pretty good offensive effort overall—the Tigers couldn’t cash in on any opportunities, though. I like their luck to change in game three.
