New York Yankees Betting Preview

The Yankees were able to eke out a 5-4 win in the Thursday opener of this set. New York got RBI from five different players, including Oswaldo Cabrera’s solo homer and two runs. On Friday the Yankees didn’t score until the seventh inning but still powered out a 7-1 win. Starter Carlos Rodon went 4.1 innings with one earned on five hits and three walks.

In the starting pitcher role for the Saturday matchup it’ll be Marcus Stroman for New York. Last year in 27 games (25 starts), Stroman posted a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA alongside 119 Ks in 136.2 innings. In his career Stroman is 77-76 with a 3.65 ERA in 231 games (223 starts).

Houston Astros Betting Preview

Over on the Astros’ side, they were cruising Thursday until the fifth. Houston had a 4-0 lead early but couldn’t score after the second inning. In the Friday matchup the Astros gave up four runs in the eighth inning alone. Cristian Javier had a nice start with 6.0 clean frames, four hits and one walk.

It’ll be Hunter Brown as starter for the Saturday game. Last season Brown went 11-13 with a 5.09 ERA over 31 games (29 starts). In 155.2 innings total, Brown bagged 178 strikeouts. He’s got a 13-13 career record in 38 games (31 starts) with a 4.60 ERA overall.

Yankees vs Astros Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward the Yankees here. I like this one to be close, though. We’ll have an interesting pitching matchup, so the early momentum is going to hinge on what Stroman can do on the mound. In Friday’s game New York ended up with 11 team hits. Oswaldo Cabrera managed four of those, along with three RBI. Juan Soto (three hits; RBI) had a great game as well. Houston couldn’t hold back the Yankees offense, as three of the four bullpen pitchers gave up at least two earned runs. This one likely won’t be as dramatic, and I think New York has a decent shot at another win.
